DUETS (formerly known as Dueting it for the Kids) is a unique concert unlike anything else staged in Australia. It brings together the very best of the music industry in a concert of duets with proceeds going to support The Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF).
This year’s concert, which is proudly sponsored by APN News & Media, is set down for Monday, 20 August, 2012 at Sydney’s iconic State Theatre.
Without further ado, ACMF are thrilled to announce the first round of artists who are generously giving up their time to appear:
Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Gurus)
Mark Gable (Choirboys)
Angie Hart (Frente!)
Darryl & Harmony Lovegrove
Dale Ryder (Boom Crash Opera)
Mark Williams (Dragon)
The MC’s for the night will be Rob Mills and Ian “Dicko” Dickson with Paul Gray once again taking up the baton as Music Director.
These once-in-a-lifetime collaborations between artists are a joy to behold as they leave their comfort zones and embark on a musical journey with, quite often, a fellow artist they’ve only just met! Some of the special collaborations which have already been confirmed for this year include Megan Washington with Tim Finn, John Waters with Christine Anu, Ian Moss with James Morrison and Angie Hart with Dave Faulkner.
Brett Chenoweth, CEO of APN News & Media said “APN News & Media is delighted to be associated with the ACMF, and to be the major sponsor of DUETS. Music can inspire and change the lives of children and the great work undertaken by ACMF in schools, juvenile justice centres and remote areas is evidence of that. DUETS is a standout event that brings together some of Australia’s finest music talent for this great cause – it’s going to be a memorable night.”
All funds raised at this event go towards music programs that the ACMF run for disadvantaged and Indigenous youth across Australia. More than 75% of public schools in Australia do not have the funds to provide a specialised music teacher. The ACMF passionately believe that no child should be deprived of a music education. It believes that this should be a right, not a privilege. Music is food for the soul and inspires imagination, creativity and brings joy, hope, self-esteem and significant social and intellectual benefits.
Stay tuned for further performer announcements in the coming weeks.
